The committee has considered ways to engage diverse West County API communities, both those who historically have lived in West Contra Costa County in large numbers, as well as many new and emerging communities. This diversity and the challenges it poses to planning a shared event have been central to the decision to host an API-focused event, given the complexities of interpretation and resource identification. Many API community members still have difficulty in grasping the specifics of the health insurance system in the US and the transformations currently underway with the Affordable Care Act, and there are still many families to reach. Partners involved in planning the event are all doing outreach to the target community members based on their connections and programs on the ground, including the creation of outreach materials flyers in multiple API languages to enhance our reach through distribution in our diverse community networks.
