Please bring the following documents: Proof of income, CA ID or Drivers License, U.S. Passport, Birthdates, Social Security Numbers and Home Zip Code. This event is part of the Healthy Richmond Access to Quality Healthcare Action Team enrollment events series being planned for the coming year.  The collaborative of partnering organizations has been meeting for the past several months to plan the event, and includes representation from Healthy Richmond, the Office of Supervisor John Gioia, West Contra Costa ACA Team Community Outreach Network, Asian Community Mental Health Services, Community Health for Asian Americans, Korean Community Center of the East Bay, Lao Family Community Development, Inc., Contra Costa County Community Clinic Consortium, Contra Costa County Health Services, Office of Richmond City Manager, California Council of Churches, Life Long Medical, RYSE Center, the Office of State Senator Loni Hancock, and others. Sponsors include The California Endowment, on behalf of Healthy Richmond, and Blue Shield of California.

The committee has considered ways to engage diverse West County API communities, both those who historically have lived in West Contra Costa County in large numbers, as well as many new and emerging communities. This diversity and the challenges it poses to planning a shared event have been central to the decision to host an API-focused event, given the complexities of interpretation and resource identification. Many API community members still have difficulty in grasping the specifics of the health insurance system in the US and the transformations currently underway with the Affordable Care Act, and there are still many families to reach. Partners involved in planning the event are all doing outreach to the target community members based on their connections and programs on the ground, including the creation of outreach materials flyers in multiple API languages to enhance our reach through distribution in our diverse community networks.

Candlelight Vigil on Friday, October 24th @ The Richmond Civic Center

Candlelight Vigil.jpg

Hello Friends ~ 11 years ago on October 13th, Chan Bounkeut and her father Gwai were shot through the door of their home and Chan lost her life. Out of this tragedy, the West County Southeast Asian community, public system and community organizations came together to address the issues of violence impacting their communities and created an active youth group that came to be known as Southeast Asian Young Leaders, or SEAYL. We have had other losses including Alan “Ace” Lee, as well as members of the Viengvilai family who were tragically lost in a fire. In the spirit of remembrance, we are hosting a Candlelight Vigil on Friday, October 24th, 2014 at the Richmond Civic Center Community Room.

The vigil will be held from 5-7pm at 325 Civic Center Plaza in Richmond. The candlelight vigil will honor the memory of SEAYL youth and families that have experienced tragedy and loss. There will be space for honored guests to say a few words.

This event is open to the public and we encourage you to invite anyone you think should come to the event. If you have any questions, please contact: Sean Kirkpatrick (510) 282-7550 or Nga Le (916) 261-1123.
